Maharath Issues Statement on Dayton Shooting
August 5, 2019
State Senator Tina Maharath (D-Columbus) issued the following statement in the wake of a mass shooting in Dayton, killing nine people and injuring 26 more:
"I would like to offer my deepest sympathies and prayers to the family and friends of those who were senselessly murdered this weekend in Dayton. I cannot fathom the pain that you are feeling at this time and I hope you are able to find peace and comfort in the days to come. My heart goes out to the entire Dayton community.
"I am compelled to echo the words of Democratic leaders who are urging common sense gun reform to keep all Ohioans safe and prevent another horrific tragedy. I also hope that lawmakers, in both Columbus and Washington, will continue to increase funding for mental health services and supporting greater access to that care. I urge the state legislature and Congress to say 'enough is enough' and pass intentional legislation to ensure everyone’s safety. We must act now."
