State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the Governor has signed Senate Bill 64, which will strengthen a law designed to protect children from kidnappers and other predators.  Senate Bill 64 was introduced following a series of court decisions that declared Ohio’s current statute too broad to enforce.

Senator Larry Obhof (R–Medina) today announced the Senate has voted to modernize Ohio law, expanding the types of entities that are permitted to serve as a statutory agent. By expanding the list, Senate Bill 98 will remove restrictions, allowing for a more practical and competitive business environment.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the passage of legislation that seeks to improve efforts at the state and local levels to better match job opportunities and training programs with those seeking work. House Bill 1, sponsored by Representatives Mark Romanchuk (R- Ontario) and Tim Derickson (R- Hanover Township) is companion legislation to Senate Bill 2, which passed the Senate in March.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the Ohio Senate has approved House Bill 59, the state’s biennial budget. The two-year, $61.8 billion budget also provides funding for state agencies and departments, as well as health and human services for Ohioans in need. The budget includes a targeted tax cut for small businesses and makes the largest investment in public education in the last decade.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today presented members of the Ashland University women’s basketball team with a Senate resolution honoring them as the 2013 NCAA Division II Champions. The Eagles defeated Dowling College to win the championship – the first national title for the University in any team sport.

Continuing its step-by-step approach to election law changes, the Ohio Senate last week took up a proposal that enjoys broad support among election officials and voting-rights advocates. The bill, introduced by state Sen. Larry Obhof, a Medina Republican, would encourage the use of electronic poll books, now employed in about a dozen counties in the state.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the state transportation budget – House Bill 51 – has been signed into law by Governor John Kasich. The bill provides funding for the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Public Safety, as well as a variety of infrastructure projects during the next two years.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced that Governor Kasich has signed his legislation that updates Ohio’s tax code to avoid conflicting state and federal tax rules. Senate Bill 28 will help prevent confusion during tax season and enable Ohioans to take full advantage of all the tax credits and reductions to which they are entitled. The bill will save taxpayers an estimated $14 million in fiscal year 2013.
