COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today presented members of the Ashland University women’s basketball team with a Senate resolution honoring them as the 2013 NCAA Division II Champions. The Eagles defeated Dowling College to win the championship – the first national title for the University in any team sport.

Continuing its step-by-step approach to election law changes, the Ohio Senate last week took up a proposal that enjoys broad support among election officials and voting-rights advocates. The bill, introduced by state Sen. Larry Obhof, a Medina Republican, would encourage the use of electronic poll books, now employed in about a dozen counties in the state.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the state transportation budget – House Bill 51 – has been signed into law by Governor John Kasich. The bill provides funding for the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Department of Public Safety, as well as a variety of infrastructure projects during the next two years.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced that Governor Kasich has signed his legislation that updates Ohio’s tax code to avoid conflicting state and federal tax rules. Senate Bill 28 will help prevent confusion during tax season and enable Ohioans to take full advantage of all the tax credits and reductions to which they are entitled. The bill will save taxpayers an estimated $14 million in fiscal year 2013.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the Ohio Senate gave unanimous approval to House Concurrent Resolution 4, which urges Congress and the U.S. Air Force to maintain the C-27J program at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield. Obhof sponsored a similar resolution that was approved by the Ohio Senate earlier this month.

COLUMBUS — Members of the Ohio Senate today voted to approve legislation that seeks to conform Ohio’s tax code with recent changes to the federal tax code. Sponsored by State Senator Larry Obhof, Senate Bill 28 would save taxpayers nearly $14 million in fiscal year 2013 and would help prevent complications when Ohioans file their tax returns.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today applauded the bipartisan passage of legislation that would implement a series of common-sense reforms to Ohio’s election laws. Senate Bill 10 includes a number of provisions aimed at improving accessibility at polling locations for individuals with disabilities and ensuring that early voters who are in line when a polling location closes are permitted to vote.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today gave testimony in support of Senate Concurrent Resolution 5, which urges Congress and the U.S. Air Force to maintain the C-27J program at the 179th Airlift Wing based out of the Ohio Air National Guard station in Mansfield.  The Air Force has proposed retiring a number of aircraft, including the C-27J Spartan – a twin turboprop used to transport troops and supplies. Retiring or relocating the aircraft would result in the loss of 800 jobs in the Mansfield community.

COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof has been named by Senate President Keith Faber (R- Celina) as Vice Chairman of the Senate Civil Justice Committee for the 130th General Assembly.  In this position, Obhof will play a key role in examining and developing policies that impact Ohio’s court system, as well as the state’s civil and commercial law.
