Sykes and Yuko Comment on Governor's Budget Proposal
February 1, 2021

Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and state Senator and Minority Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statements after Governor Mike DeWine announced the biennial budget for fiscal years 2022 and 2023:

Minority Leader Kenny Yuko: “We are pleased that Governor DeWine shares some of our budget priorities, including improving Ohioans’ access to broadband and increasing funding for local health departments, small businesses, education and childcare. We must make sure these funding increases are meaningful and that we are doing everything we can to support the families and workers in Ohio who have been hurt the most by the pandemic.”

State Senator Vernon Sykes: “I am glad that the governor did not propose any major changes to our tax policy and instead wants to increase funding for programs that would counteract the negative impact that the pandemic has had on our economy. I hope that we can work together to add more resources to ensure an adequate distribution of the Covid-19 vaccine, especially among minorities, to increase access to quality childcare, conduct a thorough review of tax expenditures and to provide a new fair school funding formula.”
