This week, state Senators Cecil Thomas (D-Avondale) and Tina Maharath (D-Canal Winchester) introduced Senate Bill 316, legislation that would move the date of the May 3 primary to June 28, 2022.

Today, state Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) and state Rep. Jessica E. Miranda (D-Forest Park), founders of the bicameral Ohio Gun Violence Prevention Caucus, sent a letter to Gov. DeWine urging his veto of Senate Bill (SB) 215, extreme permitless concealed carry legislation that puts Ohioans and law enforcement in danger. If enacted, SB 215 would allow any Ohioan, aged 21 years or older, to carry a concealed handgun without a permit and without any training, provided they are not otherwise prohibited under state or federal law. Additionally, this bill would modify "duty to notify" requirements and reduce the penalty for failure to notify to a misdemeanor with no accompanying license suspension.

Today, state Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Avondale) condemned an amendment added to Senate Bill 157 in Government Oversight and Reform committee that would limit abortion clinics' ability to contract with physicians as the consulting doctor if they also worked at a public medical college or other public institution.

Today, state Cecil Thomas (D-Avondale) issued the following statement condemning Senate Bill 123, the so-called "trigger ban" legislation that would automatically outlaw all abortions in Ohio if the U.S. Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade. The bill, which had its first hearing in the Senate Health Committee today, does not contain any exceptions for rape or incest.
