COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate recently announced that State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) has been appointed to serve as Ranking Member of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and State and Local Committee for the 131st General Assembly.

“My appointment to these committees will allow me to use my extensive public service experience as a former law enforcement officer and city council member to serve the constituents of my district,” said Senator Thomas. “There are many issues that need to be addressed, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure that there are significant accomplishments made through our committees.”

The Senate Criminal Justice Committee focuses on bills, policies, and issues that directly impact criminal law while the Senate State and Local Committee focuses on non-monetary issues that impact local governments including counties, municipalities, townships and villages.

In addition to his leadership roles, Senator Thomas will also serve on the following committees:

  • Education

  • Civil Justice
