Thomas Statement on LaRose's New Ballot Drop Box Directive
October 5, 2020
Today, state Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Avondale) issued the following statement in response to Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s decision to allow county boards of elections to install multiple absentee ballot drop boxes – but only at their offices:

“A record number of registered voters in Ohio has requested to vote by mail this year and they shouldn’t be forced to choose between driving 30 minutes to drop off their ballot or relying on the postal service, which is experiencing delays. Secretary of State LaRose has the authority to install drop boxes in multiple locations across all of Ohio’s counties but he refuses to do so. This is by choice. His job is to make it easier for Ohioans to vote, but he prefers to play politics instead. It’s unrealistic to expect nearly 600,000 registered voters in Hamilton County to share one ballot drop box.”
