COLUMBUS – Today, Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) announced that he will introduce legislation to prohibit prosecutors who represent counties with 400,000 or more residents from retaining private law practices while they serve as the county prosecutor.

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) released the following statement, calling on parents and guardians to destroy toy guns that closely resemble actual guns.  The death of 13 year-old Tyre King in Columbus is the most recent episode of a fatal police shooting of a juvenile who was carrying a realistic imitation firearm. In each instance, police stated they believed the child had a real gun.

COLUMBUS – This week, Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) joined workers and faith leaders from across Ohio and the nation for a Moral Day of Action. The event stemmed from a call to action by Reverend William J. Barber II. It included speeches and a silent march to the Statehouse to demand that legislators address issues such as systemic injustice, racism, poverty, and voting rights.

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) announced he will introduce legislation to allow municipalities to restrict open or concealed carry of firearms during events of regional or national significance. This local control bill comes after Cleveland's largest police union expressed concerns over the ability of citizens to openly carry firearms during the Republican National Convention.

COLUMBUS – Today, State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) announced that St. Bernard Elmwood Place City School District has been selected to receive about $27 million from the Ohio School Facilities Commission for the construction of a new school building for grades Pre K-12.

COLUMBUS – Today, all Democratic members of the Senate Civil Justice Committee expressed strong opposition to Senate Bill 296, which would add additional hurdles for Ohioans who attempt to keep polling locations open on Election Day. The bill has moved quickly through the Senate and will likely pass the Senate this afternoon.

Columbus—This week, the governor signed Senate Bill 124, designating May as Asthma Awareness Month and May 5th as Childhood Asthma Awareness Day. State Senator Cecil Thomas (D-Cincinnati) is the primary sponsor of the legislation. Asthma is a chronic condition that affects 13-15% of the population. Asthma diagnoses are increasing, and 6.8 million children in the United States suffer from the disease.
