Williams Condemns Senate Passage of Republican Congressional Map
November 16, 2021
Today, state Senator Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) released the following statement after the Senate passed, on a party-line vote, Senate Bill 258 – a congressional district map that continues to gerrymander Ohio’s communities:
“I am disappointed in the lack of transparency we have experienced during the congressional redistricting process. There was little to no discussion, little to no opportunity for comment and little to no opportunity for negotiations. Ohio voters spoke loud and clear. They wanted a fair, equitable process with fair, equitable maps. Substitute Senate Bill 258 is not what they asked for. This map weakens the power of voters, particularly minority voters, across the state. Ohioans deserve better.”
