Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statement after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in a 4-3 vote that the congressional maps adopted by Republican members of the Ohio Redistricting Commission on March 2, 2022 are unconstitutional. The court ordered legislature 30 days to adopt new congressional district maps for use in the 2024 election cycle. The Ohio Redistricting Commission will have 30 days to adopt new congressional maps if the legislature fails to do so.

Today, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus announced that it will appoint Dale Martin to serve out the unexpired term of Senator Sandra Williams, who announced last week that she would resign effective June 8. The term will end on December 31.

Today, the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus announced that it is accepting applications from individuals seeking appointment to Senate District 21 in Cuyahoga County. The office is currently represented by state Senator Sandra R. Williams, who announced her resignation this week.

Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and Senate President Pro Tempore Jay Hottinger (R-Newark) announced the Senate's unanimous passage of Senate Bill 164, their legislation to increase penalties for companion animal cruelty and prohibit the inhumane use of gas chambers for euthanasia of companion animals.

Today, state Senator Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) commended the Ohio Senate's passage of House Bill 687, the state Capital Budget, which appropriates over $28 million for economic development projects in Ohio's 25th Senate District, which includes Cuyahoga and Lake counties.

Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) responded to the Commission's failure to adopt a new set of constitutional and fair state legislative maps by the May 6 Ohio Supreme Court deadline. Amid loud chants for fair maps from Ohioans, the majority of commissioners instead voted to adopt the third set of legislative maps, which were already ruled unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court on March 16.

Today, Ohio Senate Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) issued the following statement after a federal court stayed its intervention in the state legislative redistricting process, allowing the Ohio Redistricting Commission to continue its map-drawing work. If the Commission does not adopt constitutional state legislative maps before May 28, the federal court said it will implement the third set of maps, adopted by the majority Commission members February 24 and ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of Ohio on March 17.
