Yuko's Alzheimer's Task Force Bill Clears Senate
April 10, 2019
Today, the Ohio Senate unanimously passed legislation sponsored by Minority Leader Kenny Yuko (D-Richmond Heights) and state Senator Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) to examine how Alzheimer’s and other dementias are impacting Ohioans.
“Ohio needs a strategic plan to make sure every person impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias in our state has the proper support,” said Senator Yuko. “This is not just an aging issue and Ohioans can no longer afford to wait.”
Senate Bill 24 would create the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Task Force, which would research the effects of dementias and provide recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly on how to improve services for those affected and their caregivers.
An estimated 220,000 Ohioans currently live with dementia, with each patient typically relying on two to three caregivers for support. This means that nearly 1 million Ohioans are impacted by dementia-related diseases.
SB 24 now goes to the Ohio House for consideration.
