COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 263, sponsored by State Senator Kristina Roegner (R-Hudson), which would allow Professional Employer Organizations to file unemployment wage and contribution reports with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services with one filing, rather than potentially hundreds.

"Senate Bill 263 helps modernize Ohio’s unemployment reporting system by allowing professional employer organizations to file a single consolidated report for the businesses they support, rather than potentially hundreds per quarter," said Senator Roegner. "By cutting unnecessary paperwork and red tape, this legislation lets employers focus on running their businesses while maintaining full accountability in our unemployment system.”

Professional Employment Organizations  (PEOs) are firms that provide human resources services to businesses. Current law requires PEOs to file separate reports with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services one by one. SB263 would allow them to submit a filing including all of their clients.

Senate Bill 263 also has the support of the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, whose Assistant Director, Brad Barger, stated during proponent testimony, "This small change will have a big impact, as it will cut down burdensome red tape and save employers time and money. At the same time, it will have no cost to the department."

Senate Bill 263 now heads to the Ohio House for further consideration.
