Senator Huffman Announces Million Dollar Grant for Piqua Site Cleanup
COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) is proud to announce that the Piqua Development Corporation will receive $1,000,000 in grant funding from the Ohio Department of Development to support cleanup efforts at the site of the historic Piqua Power Plant.
"As Ohio continues to move forward economically, cleanup of contaminated sites will help spur redevelopment across the state," said Senator Huffman. "I'm proud to see this funding distributed to Piqua and look forward to seeing the completion of this project and the positive effect it will bring to the community."
Funding awarded to the Piqua Development Corporation will be used to complete asbestos abatement inside boilers, turbines, and mechanical systems of the historic coal-fired Piqua Power Plant, addressing contamination not accessible during previous cleanup phases. The work will prepare the structure for mixed-use redevelopment including hotel rooms, residential units, and a restaurant overlooking the riverfront. The project is expected to create 200 new jobs.
