Wilson, Johnson Honor Veterans Services Director Ashenhurst

COLUMBUS—State Senators Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) and Terry Johnson (R-McDermott), honored Ohio Department of Veterans Services (ODVS) Director Deborah Ashenhust on her retirement.
"The kindness and care Director Ashenhurst has shown to our veterans is unparalleled," said Senator Wilson. "Her ability to lead this agency and to make sure Ohio's military veterans have the services they need will be missed. I'm proud to honor her dedication to Ohio and congratulate her on her retirement."
"We recognize Director Ashenhurst not only for her remarkable achievements but also for the legacy she leaves behind; a standard of service that will inspire others for years to come," said Senator Johnson. "She is a friend, colleague, and someone I can really call my Army buddy."
Governor DeWine appointed Ashenhurst to serve as the ODVS director in 2019. Prior to serving as ODVS director, Ashenhurst served in the U.S. Army and Ohio National Guard for more than 37 years. She served at all levels of command, and in 2011, she was appointed to the gubernatorial-level cabinet position of Adjutant General of the State of Ohio. She served as adjutant general until January 2015. Her military career culminated in service as a special assistant to the vice chief, National Guard Bureau in Washington, D.C.
Senators Johnson and Wilson are the chairman and vice-chairman of the Ohio Senate's Armed Services, Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee.
