Wilson Takes Oath to Fill 7th District Vacancy

COLUMBUS—Warren County resident Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) took the oath of office today to fill a vacancy in Ohio's 7th Senate District, encompassing all of Warren county and portions of Hamilton and Butler counties.
The Senate's majority Republican caucus voted unanimously to approve a screening committee recommendation, following interviews with five applicants seeking to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former State Senator Shannon Jones, who is now serving as Warren County Commissioner. The committee recommended Wilson for appointment to the seat, and the 24-member Senate Republican Caucus met last week to accept the screening committee’s recommendation and seat Wilson as its newest member.
“Steve has both the leadership and work ethic to make him an outstanding representative for the people of the 7th District,” said Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina). “He is active in the community, and he understands the issues important to his constituents. I’m confident that Steve will be an outstanding advocate for the 7th District, and we're proud to welcome him to the Senate.”
Wilson will serve for the remainder of the current term, ending in December 2018. The seat stands for election in November 2018, and the winner of that election will serve a full, four-year term beginning in January 2019.
“I’m grateful for the trust and opportunity given to me by my new colleagues," said Wilson. "I will do everything I can to return power and influence to the people of Warren and Hamilton counties and to fight for a job-creating environment for all Ohioans."
Wilson, the former chief executive and current chairman of LCNB Corp and LCNB National Bank, offers more than 40 years of local service experience in the private and non-profit sectors. Wilson serves on the board of trustees at his alma mater, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and as vice chair of the Warren County Port Authority. He is a past chair of the American Bankers Association and the Ohio Bankers Association, as well as a former board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Wilson served as president of the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lebanon City Schools board of education and as a member of the board of directors for Countryside YMCA, currently the largest YMCA organization in the world. He also is a member of the Butler County Business Hall of Fame, as well as Cincinnati Magazine’s Business Hall of Fame.
Wilson has chaired or coordinated multiple economic, capital and historic development campaigns, including projects with the Ohio Historical Society, the Little Miami Bike Trail, the Warren County Foundation and the Child Advocacy Center of Warren County.
Upon graduation from Miami University, Wilson received a commission as a United States Naval Officer and was named a Distinguished Naval Graduate by the Chief of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. He and his wife, Jill, have four children and five grandchildren. They currently reside in Maineville, Ohio, where they are active members of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Wilson is an avid walker and recently completed the Ohio Erie Trail, which starts on the banks of the Ohio River and ends on the shores of Lake Erie.
