COLUMBUS—State Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) introduced Senate Bill 223 that provides a 25% discount to active-duty military and military veterans for all state parks services and rentals.

"Encouraging recreation and relief for our veterans is an easy way to thank them for all they have done for our nation," said Senator Patton. "We want to make our state a friendly and welcoming place for our country's veterans. This is one small way Ohio can serve those who serve all of us."

Senate Bill 223 requires the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) director to implement a 25% discount for state parks services and rentals, including campgrounds and other activities, for active-duty military and military veterans. This discount does not apply to merchandise and the cost is covered by the department.

The introduction of Senate Bill 223 follows Senator Patton's previously introduced Senate Bill 92, which would provide a 100% homestead property tax exemption for fully disabled veterans.

Senate Bill 223 has been assigned to the Senate Armed Services, Veterans Affiars, and Public Safety Committee for further hearings.
