COLUMBUS—State Senator Tim Schaffer (R-Lancaster) issues a statement on the fatal tractor-trailer crash in Madison County.

“I am saddened to hear about the fatal accident that occurred in Madison County over the weekend. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Tobias Forsythe.

This news of a non-English speaking CDL driver hitting and killing an Ohio citizen is alarming to hear, that someone driving a semi-truck cannot understand or effectively communicate in English.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, I am calling on the State of Ohio to take a stronger look at the Ohio Revised Code to see where we can strengthen and reinforce current law regarding issuing CDLs and protecting the public.

People who are behind the wheel of a big rig need to be held to higher standard and comply with the laws that are in place.  We await results of law enforcement investigation of this accident to determine next steps of what the State of Ohio can do to locate and revoke CDL’s of dangerous drivers.

Safety is paramount and we must do everything we can to make sure this situation does not happen again. Justice needs to be delivered for the family of Tobias Forsythe, whose life was tragically cut short.”
