DeMora Comments on Ohio State President Carter's Resignation
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) released the following statement regarding the news that Ohio State President Ted Carter resigned over the weekend due to an “inappropriate relationship.”
“I am shocked and dismayed by the news of Ted Carter’s resignation, and I am sad to see that my alma mater will now look to hire its fourth president since 2020. I am glad that President Carter had the personal integrity to step down, but the situation at my alma mater is getting ridiculous,” said DeMora. “I want to be clear: The situation that we are in, where every single day we are waking up to see a new Ohio State scandal in the headlines, is the fault of the Board of Trustees. It was the board that got rid of former President Johnson because she was a progressive with a backbone, that continues to shield Les Wexner and others connected to Jeffrey Epstein, and that has forced the Richard Strauss lawsuits to drag on. People need to get fired, and soon, before Ohio State sinks any lower. I hope that when the board chooses President Carter’s replacement, they carefully consider whether a candidate has any actual ties to Ohio State before hiring.”
President Carter resigned on March 7 at an emergency board meeting, saying that he had an inappropriate relationship with “someone seeking public resources to support her personal business.” Board Chair John Zeiger said that the board will share a transition plan later this week.
