Craig Applauds Passage of Bill Honoring Late Chief of Police James G. Jackson
Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) celebrated the Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 95, which would designate a portion of I-71 in Columbus as the “Chief of Police James G. Jackson Memorial Highway.”
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to honor such an outstanding member of our Columbus community,” said Senator Craig. “Chief Jackson was an inspiration to many in our city. This bill will ensure that his decades of exemplary service and dedication to his community are given the recognition they deserve.”
Chief Jackson passed away earlier this year. He served the City of Columbus for over 50 years, becoming the first African American Chief of Police within the division. The longest-serving chief in the division’s history, Chief Jackson was a beacon of equal opportunity and anti-discrimination.
Senate Bill 95 now heads to the Ohio House of Representatives for consideration.
