Craig Condemns Trump Attacks on Somali Communities

Today, state Senator Hearcel F. Craig (D-Columbus) released the following statement regarding President Trump’s recent disparaging comments targeting Somali communities.

“I am deeply troubled by the President’s latest despicable and unconscionable attacks against our Somali neighbors, the vast majority of whom are American citizens,” said Craig. “Somali Ohioans have made invaluable contributions to our community, our state, and our country. They are our friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We must reject the racism and bigotry that seeks to divide us and do better to ensure that this nation and our state is a safe place for all, including refugees and immigrants.”

Central Ohio is home to an estimated 70,000 Somali residents – the second-largest Somali community in the country.
