Timken Announces Grant Awards to House Stark County Veterans
COLUMBUS—State Senator Jane Timken (R-Jackson Township) announced that Axxesspointe Community Health Center has been awarded $600,000 for the building of 11 individual housing units for veterans.
"I am incredibly proud of Ohio for continuing to take steps to support our veterans in need," Senator Timken said. "Our service members have been protecting our nation and our rights for over 250 years, yet many of them are homeless or in poverty. This grant will help the veterans of Stark County get back on their feet. I look forward to seeing this project move forward and watching veterans receive the support they deserve."
On May 29th, the Ohio Department of Development announced $4 million in grant awards to help four nonprofit organizations combat homelessness across Ohio. Axxesspointe Community Health Center received an award of $600,000 to help create 11 individual housing units out of two side by side properties owned by Honor House in Canton. Each unit will serve a single veteran and consists of one bedroom and one bathroom, with access to communal kitchens, living rooms, and program provided meals.
Funding for this grant comes from the HOME American Rescue Plan Non-Congregate Shelter Program, which provides for the creation and expansion of non-congregate shelters across Ohio.
