COLUMBUS—State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) introduced Senate Bill 433, legislation to update Ohio’s coastal management law.

Currently, property owners along the shores of Lake Erie often encounter a web of complex and burdensome regulations related to the Ohio Department of Natural Resource’s permitting process that can often take years to untangle.

Senate Bill 433 creates a three-tier permit process for coastal structures along the shores of Lake Erie, simplifying a complex process for property owners. This legislation also updates several other key areas of the coastal management law, all with goal of protecting the rights of property owners and beautiful Lake Erie.

“As the State Senator who represents the longest stretch of Lake Erie shoreline, I have heard countless examples of the regulatory nightmare lakefront owners encounter,” said Senator Gavarone. “Senate Bill 433 modernizes Ohio law to create a simplified regulatory environment for property owners to navigate, while preserving the health of one of Ohio’s most precious natural resources: Lake Erie.”

Senate Bill 433 is currently awaiting committee assignment.
