Sykes Commends the Expansion of Educational Interventions
Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of Senate Bill 162, which would provide Ohio students demonstrating limited skills in English language arts and math with evidence-based academic interventions.
“Ensuring that students who are falling behind in reading and math get the support they need to stay on track is critically important," Sykes said. “After many years of focusing on retention, I applaud the Senate’s giant step towards what the research tells us is an effective strategy: interventions to give struggling students the help they need. As my colleagues in the Ohio House begin work on this bill, I encourage them to continue this important conversation and ensure school districts have the resources necessary to provide this essential service to their students.”
Senate Bill 162 now moves to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration. The full text and analysis of Senate Bill 162 can be found here.
