Blackshear Commends Governor DeWine's Veto of H.B. 472
Today, state Senator Willis E. Blackshear Jr. (D-Dayton) issued the following statement after Governor DeWine vetoed House Bill 472.
“I’m glad that Governor DeWine had the common sense to veto this unnecessary and burdensome legislation that would have disenfranchised senior and disabled voters,” said Blackshear. “H.B. 472 started as a bipartisan effort to help homeless people obtain IDs and other important documents. Republicans then amended the bill into something so bad that elections officials on both sides of the aisle opposed it.”
Governor DeWine’s veto message reiterates that Ohio elections already run smoothly and fraud is incredibly rare. H.B. 472 is now stalled unless the House brings it up for an override vote, which would require 3/5 support in each chamber to become law.
