Weinstein Announces $7.8M Investment in Summit County Projects
Today, state Senator Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of the state’s capital budget (Senate Bill 450), which includes $6.1 million within Ohio’s 28th Senate District and nearly $7.8 million for Summit County as a whole.
“I'm proud to help bring this critical funding back to our community to support projects that reflect our priorities and improve the lives of the people who call Summit County home,” said Weinstein. “This investment will help organizations across our region expand essential services, improve public facilities, enhance parks and trails, and create new opportunities for families. From supporting addiction recovery and domestic violence services to funding educational, cultural, and recreational improvements, this budget delivers resources that will have a lasting impact throughout our communities. ”
Overall, the bill appropriates $3.7 billion in capital funding, including $208 million for community projects across the state.
Local projects in the bill include:
- The Akron Zoo received funding to construct its new Giraffe Journey exhibit
- The University of Akron received funding for a variety of campus improvement projects
- The City of Akron received funding for upgrades to the Dan Street Public Safety Training Center
- IBH Addiction Recovery received funding to construct new residential treatment housing
- ACCESS received funding to continue ongoing renovations to residential facilities serving women and children
- Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center received funding for upgrades to its emergency shelter facilities
- The Akron Civic Theatre received funding for needed facility improvements and preservation efforts
- The Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park received funding for the Oxbow Meadows Revitalization Project
- Seven park and trail projects throughout Summit County received funding for construction, expansion, and improvement efforts
